This thesis including the part of education research and practice for children cognition, and the characteristics of children’s cognitive development-oriented toy product design research part. The former through the children education research and the creative educational activities, the latter through the study of theory and practice in art and design which based on the understanding of children’s cognitive and behavioral modes.Combining with the Montessori education concept of early childhood and its interactive research with the industrial design thought, analysis the factors from social education, family life, natural environment, and art culture, which impact on child development and toy design process. Particularly, in children’s home, children’s center and children’s creative club, the author participated in the open-air painting activities and toys classes with children, then deeply understanding the developmental characteristics of children in the field of art cognition:the sensitivity in perception, the order in mathematical cognition, and the simplicity in art thinking.The characteristics of children’s cognition development in the practice of early childhood education, will guide this research and practice of toy design in the aspects of aesthetics and mathematics.Based on the research and study of toy product design, this thesis’s design and practice will be broadened through the research and redesign of tangram. The abstract forms and rational logic of mathematical geometry interact with the simple communication and universal practicality of art and design, that make the theoretical support for the research and redesign of tangram which belongs to the geometrical toys. Based on the modularization and creative change in combination ways of tangram, analysis and utilize the construction theory and geometrical relationship of tangram in plane construction, then try to find the harmonious balance in both visual image and mathematical logic through the practice of typography design and puzzle, which is meaningful in excavating and questing the practical possibilities and creative potentialities of tangram. What’s more, find the potential value of tangram in art design, children cognition and education field.In view of the above two part study on children’s interaction, will benefit for toy designers engaging in child-centered design activities; the integrated industrial design and related interdisciplinary research in early childhood education will help to update the reflection angle between tradition and modernity, art and technology, social and educational development.
