In the field of car passive safety, the car crash test is one of the most important testing measures to assess the car safety performance. Wherein, dummy calibration tests are the foundation and basis for the qualified and accurate car crash tests. In car calibration tests, the Hybrid III dummies are often used. The test dummies are able to imitate the human body and the internal structure with certain biological fitting to substitute for the human body in the tests. The obtained data will be used for the assessment of the car passive safety and the safety index of the passengers in the car.The content of this paper mainly focuses on the following sections. The first one includes the exploration of the force condition of the dummies in the car crash tests and dummy calibration tests, the mechanical property analysis, the research on the damage mechanism and the damage index, and the establishment of the mathematical model for the force condition of the dummies’ chests. The second one includes the discussion and research of the influential factors in the dummy calibration tests which mainly involve the dummy chest calibration tests. Via the relevant data comparison and analysis of the actual dummy chest calibration tests and the simulation tests, it can be obtained how the dummy chest calibration tests can be carried out in a relatively systemic and accurate manner. The third one involves studies on the dummy internal sensors to establish the relationship between the dummy sensor system and the dummy calibration system. The fourth one obtains one of the feasible research direction of dummy design in China by comparing the Chinese adult biomechanical parameters and the main body parameters with the Hybrid III dummy’s relevant parameters.In this paper, the study of dummy mechanical property in car frontal crash and the in-depth exploration of the dummy calibration tests aimed at increasing the car passive safety and protecting the life safety of the occupant in the cab. After that, a rational and feasible research direction was developed for crash test dummy design conforming to Chinese conditions via the comparison of parameters of Chinese body contour with the Hybrid III dummy.
