The LSTC published a Hybrid III6year old child dummy fe model which wasnot for commerce in2011. The fe model was approximate to the real dummy.However the quality of the element was poor. The material and property data was notcomplete. There were still some penetration problems between parts. So the engineerutilization value of the fe model was finite. This study had optimized and improvedthe fe model and achieved one integral6year old child dummy fe model which hadbeen verified and constructed with high quality element.The series of Hybrid III child dummy were developed on the Hybrid III50thdummy. Most of the structures were built through by scaling. UW and LSTC haddeveloped one high-quality fe model of Hybrid III50thdummy which had beenverified and qualified with high engineer utilization value. This study use the designmethods and standards as reference data for research.The beginning the paper had introduced the primary Hybrid III6year old childdummy fe model in detail and brought up some defect through comparing it with otherdummy fe models. Some improvement ideas had been proposed. The element of the femodel were reconstructed and optimized and could meet the operation criterion. Therebuilt fe model was verified according some necessary regulation including headdrop calibration, neck flexion calibration, thorax impact calibration, torso flexioncalibration and knee impact calibration. The parts which could not pass test had beenmodified through rebuilding structure.The neck of the primary dummy was not realistic. A new type of neck structurewas proposed through the spine structure of rear impact dummy. The new neckstructure adopted joint instead of center cable. The fe model of the new neck had beenbuilt and verified. As there was no available child integral neck biomechanical testdata, the scaling adult integral neck test data was adopted. The simulation resultindicated that the new dummy neck could perform excellently in front impact test andpossess certain lateral impact performance.Finally the optimized6year old dummy fe model had been verified integrally.Child cadaver sled test and Hybrid III6year old dummy sled test were proposed. Thesimulation result indicated that the optimized6year old dummy performed morerealistically than the primary fe model and the integral reaction performed close to the realistic dummy.
