Along with city high-rise, super high-rise construction and underground projects flourishing all over the world since the 20th century, the demand for deep and large foundation pit is increasing. In China, limited land resource and large population are the grim facts in the process of urbanization, which make the foundation pit depth of important buildings in metropolis is often more than 20m. But due to immature designs and construction, the probability of engineering accidents has always been high. With the development of foundation pit supporting projects, various quality and safety accidents emerged at the same time during construction. This brings uncertainty and huge risks to the performance and profitability of the industry. Foundation pit engineering has become a high-risk area in construction. However, the profits of foundation pit engineering are far more than other projects in geotechnical engineering and also than the average profits in most of the social industries. The phenomenon that high risks and high profits coexist in foundation pit engineering industry will last for a long time.Therefore, no matter from the reality of construction engineering and long-term needs for development in today’s China, or from ZD Company’s management strategy which focuses on geotechnical engineering, foundation pit supporting engineering is an inevitable choice, and the high risks of foundation pit engineering are unable to avoid, too. For this reason, studying how to carry on effective control of all kinds of risks during the whole process is of great practical significance.Based on the theory of project risk management and the practical situation of foundation pit supporting engineering, this article takes "BS administrative center foundation pit supporting engineering" of ZD Company as research object and background, and uses risk identification, risk analysis and risk assessment to know the risks of engineering projects and to comprehensively and rationally hold the objectivity, uncertainty, variability, relativity and phases of the risks of projects. What’s more, based on this, technical risks, management risks, contract risks, tax risks, funding risks, cost risks, policy risks and safety risks during the construction process can be effectively controlled by means of management methods and techniques, and adverse consequences of risk events can be properly handled to avoid, reduce, spread and transfer the risks and ensure the realization of the overall goal of the minimal cost.Based on the studies and conclusions in this article, it is hoped to provide more scientific and systematic explanation of risk management in the field of foundation pit supporting engineering, and to make up for the imperfect defects in the theories in order to play a positive role of promoting further development of foundation pit supporting engineering.
