Since the end of the 20th century, with the development and the transformation of Chinese society, the study of unit gradually became a hot topic of the academic field. The community of unit is China’s unique community types and the product of the socialist units system. At the beginning of the new China established, economic system is a planned economy system, the unit is the main form of urban economy and society. At this time, the development of the city is in the era of the unit community. Since the reform and Opening-up,along with the disintegration of the unit system, the system reform of housing and economic and the rapid development of the city, the traditional unit community is now in a period of change. How to find a proper way to develop the community is an urgent problem needed to be discussed at present. Jinan is one of the key industrial city established in the new China, the unit community is widely distributed in it. The second chapter introduced the development process of the community of the Jinan Steel Group, which is divided into six stages through internal and external factors, this provided the basis for the next research. The third chapter discussed the spatial evolution process through spatial scale, spatial form and spatial layout, and summarized its characteristics and development trend. The fourth chapter discussed the process of functional replacement through supply facilities, scale, quality and service, and then summarized its characteristics and development trend. The fifth chapter in-depth analyzed the integration of the community of the Jinan Steel Group and city through dynamic mechanism, methods and process, coming up with questions about the integration and speculations about the development of large scale unit community in the future. The sixth chapter mainly introduced research conclusions, insufficient and prospect.
