Systematic Research On Qingdao’s Urban Color

Urban color planning and design have received more and more concern in domestic cities. Relevant personnel in Beijing, Xuzhou, Harbin, Wuxi, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Xian have started to research on the color planning. What’s more, governments in some cities have adopted legal forms such as legislation so as to introduce urban color planning into city planning. The reason why urban decision makers focuses on urban color is that China didn’t pay attention to city planning in the course of social development as well as expansion. Even worse, they pay little attention to the research on urban color planning and exaggerated culture is then spreading. Most of the cities are shaped without features because planners copy each other from north to south, and from west to east they purse so-called fashion and adopt new materials and technologies. Distinct city characteristics are fading and historical continuity is stopped. Besides, visual pollution is created which shall do harm to people’s mental and physical health. Under such research background, urban color planning is imperative and city decision makers gradually realize the severity and adopt relevant suggestions to be actively engaged in urban color planning and design as well as research.In Chinese history, there are rare examples like Qingdao focuses on and successfully shapes a city with beautiful urban color planning. However, in recent years, there are also problems of mixed color in constructing new cities and reconstructing old cities which severely affect the excellent culture continuity. Therefore, it is high time for Qingdao to research and set a standard to rectify urban color. After undergoing the Olympic sailing competition in 2008, Qingdao has shown a good image as an international city to the whole world. Therefore, Qingdao has to highlight the urban color planning and there is still a long way to go which asks us to learn and refer to the urban color planning in foreign cities. After collecting a series of materials, Qingdao has to perfect its theory and application in terms of city color planning.According to the information provided by the collecting materials, cities at home and abroad which have started their urban color planning tend to adopt relatively rational ways but neglect the existence of emotional parts. In fact, emotional imagination of urban color is an important sector to construct urban color planning.In the following, I shall start from the aesthetic principles and emotional imaginations to conclude the current situation of urban color in Qingdao and European cities. Meanwhile, I will come up with my own ideas on urban color planning of Qingdao with rational means and expect to provide theories and implementation methods on its urban color planning.
