Transmission line is the lifeblood of the power system, transmission line icing excess will lead to transmission line fault, large area blackouts and other serious consequences. Establish a set of overhead transmission line icing on-line monitoring system, which can effectively reduce the transmission line fault occurs, has important significance for ensuring the safe and stable operation of power grid. This paper presented a method to achieve the design of transmission line icing monitoring system based on wireless sensor networks, mainly in the following research works:1. Through analysis and comparison determined the structure of the icing monitoring system. Icing monitoring terminals used force sensor, tilt sensor, wind speed and direction sensors, temperature and humidity sensors acquisition icing status information and weather information, and through the ZigBee wireless sensor networks and GPRS wireless communication technology transmitted the monitoring information to the remote monitoring center.2. Researched the calculation model of equivalent icing thickness based on the statics. Analyzed the insulator suspension point mechanics, and established the static equilibrium equation in the vertical plane of the vertical direction. Researched the calculation method of the insulator strings tension, wind deflection angle and offset angle values based on Kalman filter; considered the effects of temperature and stress on the wire length, and wire lowest point falls outside the span and offset, solved the wire self weight load and ice load based on the relationship of the strain parameters in the wind partial plane, further improved the transmission line equivalent icing thickness calculation model.3. Researched the icing monitoring terminal low-power technology. Reduced system power consumption mainly from regulator chip selection, power control mode, controller sleep mode and communication control method, designed the transmission line icing monitoring terminal structure, and anasyzed each part of the circuit principle and components selection.4. Design and implementation of the icing monitoring terminal software based on Z-Stack protocol stack. The icing monitoring terminal software designed mainly form communication interface program and sensor data processing program, and realized on conductor icing condition data and meteorological data collection, processing and transmission functions.5. Tested the function and performance of icing monitoring terminal and researched its correction methods. The results show that: the icing monitoring terminal has stable data acquisition, data processing and communication functions, the solar panels and terminal power consumption performance are good, equivalent icing thickness calculation model has higher accuracy, meet the icing monitoring requirements.
