The Research On Appropriate Technology In Digital Architecture Design

China is in the tide of global digital de sign, along with the com pleting of the w orks which are in china and designed by world pioneer architect design firms which includes, Zaha Hadid Architects, Coop Hi mmelblau(CHBL), and UNStudio. Digital Construction Design attracts more and more attention and is becoming a hot topic.However, the overall level of China’s construction technology is still relatively backward, which leads to the current situation, many digital designs only stay “on paper” or huge differ-ences lie between the output and the design. Therefore, once we mentioned digital design, es-pecially parametric design, people ar e always naturally linked them to“High Technology” and “High Investment”, while ignoring the essence of it as tools and methods. This paper does not intend to tread digital design as specia lized nor categorized, b ut tread them as the extension to the traditional design methods. In this way, it can better play the advantages, and put the key points on how to use digital technology to realize the expression of the phsical building, not just stay in the carnival of few "special projects".From the development of Complexity Theory and the impact from Complexity Thought to architect, this paper analysis the changes and characteristics of toda y’s architect design in the background of rapid developm ent of digital techno logy(Chapter Two). This paper also summarizes relevant concepts from two aspects, which are, narrow-sense and broad-sense digital designs. What’s more, the paper anal ysis the developm ent process of digital con-struction technology from broad-sense to narro w-sense construction technology. At the same time, chapter three and chapter f our states the different applications through each stage from the view of designing process(ke y element, logic, expression, construction). All of the above mentioned contents illustrate the whole image of construction technology in today’ s digital environment. After a comprehensive analysis of digital construction technology, the theory of Appropriate Technology is introduced. Chapter five stats the features and applying methods of Appropriate Technology.At the same time, combined with the digital architectural design, the strategy of digital architectural design under Appropriate t echnology is proposed. By analyz-ing domestic and overseas architectural design cases based on Appropriate T echnology, the paper tentatively summarizes the possibilities of application of A ppropriate Technology in digital architectural Design in the following aspects, “emphasizing the consideration of Ap-propriate Technology in the stage of conceptual phase of digital design”,“exploring geome-tric form of expression w ith easy-to-construct features,“exploring the potential of digital design technology”, and “ the attempt to cross-border manufacturing process”(Chapter Six).
