Space Analysis Based On Space Syntax Theory Of Shunde Qinghui Garden

Lingnan Classical Garden is Chinese excellent cultural heritage. The inheritance of tradition is the base of innovation. How to inherit the tradition of Lingnan Classical Gardens, is a hot spot in research. However, most of the research of Lingnan Classical Garden play attention to the literature record and description and focus on describing the concept of the design, so it lacks in-depth and specific research in its space quantization.Shunde Qinghui Garden is one of the four famous garden in Lingnan. The exquisite layout of Qinghui Garden has considerable geographical representation. It shows many characteristics of Lingnna Classical Garden. Because of these, Qinghui Garden is representative of garden landscape art in South China. On the basis of the previous analysis of research results for the Qinghui Garden and Lingnan Classical Garden, Basing on space syntax theory to build the model of Qinghui Garden by Depthmap, in order to explore the inheritance and development of Lingnan Classical Garden in a scientific method by analyzing the space of Qinghui Garden.First of all, arranging the existing research by analyzing literature to make a good understanding of the past relevant research to the landscape space of Lingnan Classical Garden and Qinghui Garden, in order to find out the necessity and problems of the method in analyzing the space. Sceondly, to review the space syntax theory and its analysis method and some case based on space syntax theory, then to investigate Qinghui Garden and to discuss the possibility and method about how to analyse the elements of landscape gardening with space syntax theory. Thirdly, basing on the space syntax theory, translate the space of Qinghui Garden into two-dimensional plane model, calculate connectivity vale, control value, depth value, depth value and integration value of Qinghui Garden by depthmap program from two aspects, then to compare the visual graphic and make a quantitative description so that to summarize the characteristics and rules of Qinghui Garden landscape gardening. Finally, investigating the space usage of Qinghui Garden, taking notes of the distribution, spatial behavior and paths seletion of visitors, then make a comparison between the investigation and quantitative analysis in other to figure out the applicability and limitations of space syntax analysis.
