With the development of education in our country and the expansion of the scale of higher education, a new variety of university campuses with complex shapes and layouts are being constructed. University students’ dormitories as an important part of campus architecture are closely related to university students’ university life. Therefore, how to make use of architectural design and technology to provide students with ideal dormitory outdoor wind environment have gradually become the main concern of the builders. The factors which influence outdoor wind environment of buildings are composed of architectural form, layout, building orientation, surrounding greening, etc. Taking university students’ dormitories in Changchun City as the research object, the paper makes a research of the effect on which several typical architectural forms and the layout forms have on outdoor wind environment under different circumstances of builidng orientation by using the method of numerical simulation. Thus, the paper proposes the optimization design strategy based on the simulation results.Firstly, the paper analyzes the climate and wind environment characteristics of Changchun City and summarizes the characteristics of the prevailing wind direction of single southwest wind in Changchun City all the year round and makes an inverstigation of the distribution of the university campuses, the university students’ dormitory building forms and the layout forms in Changchun City. Secondly, the paper sums up the basic theory of wind outdoor environment of buildings, which is mainly concerned with the flow characteristics of individual buildings and group buildings, the factors which influence outdoor wind environment of buidlings, the impact of outdoor wind environment of buidlings on people and the evaluation standard of the pedestrian height level outdoor wind environment, providing the theoretical basis for the numerical simulation research.Furthermore, based on the wind environment characteristics of Changchun City, by selecting a single dominant wind direction of southwest as the condition and the building orientation as a single variable, the paper makes a simulation study of the outdoor wind environment of buildings of the university students’ dormitories which have different forms and layouts in Changchun City and get the relationship of influence between different forms and layouts. On the basis of the wind speed ratio index and the simulation results, we give the merits of the outdoor wind environment. Finally, the paper expounds the optimization design strategy method of outdoor wind environment of buildings by selecting the typical university students’ dormitories of four universitys in Changhcun City as instances to analyze. According to the simulation results, we optimize the wind environment problems to improve the outdoor wind environment of buildings.The paper utilizes the efficient, visual and digital characteristics of computer numerical simulation in the study of the wind environment and sums up the related data and graphics. On the basis of this research, we compare and summarize the simulation results. Hence,we put forward the optimization design strategy aiming at providing the basis and the reference for the planning and the construction of college students’ dormitories in Changchun City.
