With the development of intelligent transportation technology, the application of the Vehicular Ad hoc Network common in life.In Vehicular Ad hoc Network, the high dynamic network topology caused by high-speed vehicle mobility leads to the frequent link fracture and unstable path. Aiming at this problem, a routing protocol for Vehicular Ad Hoc Network(VANET) based on the Link Expiration Time(LET) control is proposed. The vehicle builds a path which owns the same travel way and the longest link expiration time. In the routing maintenance phase, the node sets a timer to trigger a new route discovery process for finding an effective link to form a new path. The vehicle increases the transmitting power to extend link expiration time and enlarge the search range if it cannot find out the efficient link, which will minimizing the probability of fracture link. Compared with AODV and LED-AODV protocol, the simulation results show that the new routing protocol has an obvious improvement, which has the longer path expiration time, the less transmission delay, the higher average throughput and the more stable link.
