Post Occupancy Evaluation Of Xiamen Railway Heritage Park

In recent years, the transformation of the abandoned railway is one of the most popular research directions. Initiatives that transform waste railway into Park Greenway are also increasing interiorly. However, this research is still in the exploratory stage. Most of the researches are staying in the early design and concept phases, so research about the post occupancy evaluation is rare. With the rise of abandoned railway reconstruction, green railway Park Roads need post occupancy evaluation studies as feedback for better design and construction. Xiamen Railway Heritage Park has got a better response after the completion, but no POE(post occupancy evaluation)has been studied.For these reasons, this thesis uses POE method to research on Xiamen Railway Heritage Park. Combined with environmental psychology lens model, evaluation model of Railway Heritage Park which can contribute to the follow-up study is established. Evaluating on the Xiamen Railway Heritage Park and making suggestions for improvement, can provide references for its improvement of subsequent transformation.This thesis chooses Xiamen Railway Heritage Park as research object and combine evaluation theory to do detail studies from the users’ point of view. Three methods, namely behavior observing, interviewing and questionnaire, were used to analysis the basic information of uses of Xiamen Railway Heritage Park and the evaluation factor of this park. Factor analysis has better validity in examining questionnaires, so 8 common factors are extracted. Then do mean value analysis and variance analysis to simplified evaluation factor. Mean value analysis reflects the users’ evaluation level of each elements of the railway Park directly,while variance analysis reflects the differences of social characteristics to each evaluation.The survey data shows that people have high evaluation to the landscape, recreational facilities and transport of Xiamen Railway Heritage Park, however, as for the Park’s service facilities, the evaluation is respectively low. Through factor analysis we got 8 simplified common factors, which is the simplification of the original 28 factors. According to variance contribution rate, four aspects, namely plants landscape, culture landscape, recreational facilities and management way, have great influence on the evaluation of the Park. Results of variance analysis reveals that the sex and source of tourists have little effect on the Park’s overall evaluation, while the age and the frequency they come to the Park have significant influence to each evaluation factor.This survey mainly evaluates on the overall impression of the Park, the Park plants landscape, cultural landscape, recreational facilities, infrastructure services, management, peripheral traffic and some other aspects. People have a high evaluation on the overall impression of the Park, park landscape, cultural landscape, management methods and traffic around the railway. Recreational facilities also get high evaluation but still need to be improved. Evaluation of basic services is low, which need to be pay attention to improve. In addition, there are other details needs to be improved, and a number of proposals to improve this.This study can provide suggestions and improvement basis for Xiamen Railway Heritage Park, and can also offer references for other studies like this in order to promote the further development of the research.
