| Modern livable streets are not only the necessary components of urban public space, they are also the important places at where city public life exists. However, with the rapid development of urbanization and the prevalence of motorization, modern livable streets have deviated from their normal direction of development, and walkable life is disappearing. Now the problem we are facing is how to reshape modern livable street with people-oriented core value concept and how to create diversified public spaces of street to satisfy the demand of people in the contemporary city which filled with urban network intertwining and information at high speed flowing. So it is of theoretical and practical value to examine the modern livable street theoretical development systematically and investigate the present situation of livable streets in our country, and also to research those critical street elements which can influence the spontaneous activity of people.In this study we backtrack and analyze the related theory between city streets and pedestrian activities. Focusing on the relationship between pedestrian walkable behavior and the interface features of modern livable street, we establish research of Chongqing Xue Tian Wan Main street and Zaozilanya Main Street as case study, and then put forward renewal design strategies of modern livable street which can coincide with the residents’ demand and characteristics of modern development.Chapter 1 is introduction, mainly to introduce the background of city development, raise question and identify research objectives and significance of the study. According to foreign and domestic literature review studying, to some extent, it clarifies the connections between city streets and pedestrian’s behavior, and then clear the research content and technological route of overall thesis.Chapter 2 is the basic research of modern livable street interface and stationary walking activity. Aim at the first aspect, the article introduces external constitute of the street interface, including bottom interface and side interface. Aim at stationary walking activities, the paper introduce the classification and concrete contents. Due to amount of stationary walking activities and activities duration can judge the street vigor, the paper finds the value of stationary walking activity. Based on the reality of street environmental attribute having an influence on people’s behavior and psychology, the article finally extracts street interface attributes which can influence the peoples’ stationary behavior.The chapter 3 and 4 present the research process and results. In chapter 3, the thesis firstly obtains data from two dimensions, one is from modern livable streets interface, and the other is from stationary walking activities. Then the paper constitutes a research framework with 21 kinds of interface factors as independent variables, with 4 kinds of stationary walking activities as dependent variable. The author selects the typical modern livable streets in Chongqing as the research object, and establishes the research ideas and survey process about study of modern livable street interface influencing stationary walking activities. The chapter 4 uses comparison with inductive method to analyze the streets’ characteristics, and derives the outcome of different streets interface attributes affecting the same kind of stationary walking activity, the outcome of the same street interface elements affecting different types of stationary walking activities, and the outcome of interface elements combination having an influence on stationary walking activities by correlation analysis.The chapter 5 put forward 3 principles to design and renew the modern livable streets based on the street interface factors which having a great influence on stationary walking activities, including of systematic construction principle, meticulous design principle and harmonious mixture principle. At the same time, the paper describes the concrete construction method to correspond each principles.As the final summary, the chapter 6 illuminates the research limitations and outlook for future research.The exploration of influencing research framework extracted by this thesis is beneficial and meaningful to the expanded research of microscopic environment and pedestrian activity. On the one hand, as a strong and practical index system, it proposes new ideas for evaluation for modern livable street planning and design. On the other hand, by extracting the key factors of modern livable streets’ interface which having a great influence on the stationary walking activities, it can provide a certain quantitative data support to microscopic urban design, especially for street space design. And then, this result can affect policy decision making whether it is reasonable and scientific or not by relevant urban construction organization. Consequently, based on the conclusion of this paper and the explorations derived from conclusion which are renewal design strategy and construction technique of modern livable street certainly have enlightenment function to microscopic urban design, community planning and street environment shaping. |
