Under the background of emphasizing traffic efficiency, some pedestrians are surrounded by high-rising buildings, vehicles parked by the sidewalks as well as dull interfaces. The livable street is a passage,as well as an important carrier for the local residents' public life.It not only promotes culture transmission, but also enhances people's ability of social cognition, physical activity and social interaction.Although in modern society face-to-face interactions have now been extended to the exchange of virtual environments, such as the Internet, online communication is still not a substitute for communication in real space.Face-to-face interactions still play a significant role among individuals, communities and society.Taking the livable street and residents with long-term living experience as the survey objects, this thesis investigates the relationship between street space environment and residents' social behavior.Firstly, the conceptual interpretation and limited scope of life street, social interaction activities and space environment elements are illustrated. On the basis of review of the relevant research perspectives and methods, this thesis takes the part of Dalian Lingshui Road as the empirical research object and carries out the investigation under the basic theory of Behavior Setting,Affordance,Demand Theory, and Environmental Behavior.Secondly, the research dimensions are delineated including characteristics of region, types of social interaction behaviors, selection and induction of space environment elements, based on which the method of quantitative research is formed. For one thing, through the research and induction, the street space environment features are sorted into four categories which contain natural environment, spatial pattern, service facilities, humanistic environment;for another, through field observation and literature review, the social interaction behavior is divided into three categories which include passive social behavior,short-term social behavior and continuous social behavior.Thirdly, spot investigation is carried out based on analysis.Taking the part of Lingshui Road in Dalian as the research object, this thesis obtains the quantitative data.(1)Behavior Mapping is used to record the activities of pedestrians. The statistical results show that different street segments have different performances in terms of social activity time, activity type frequency and proportion. On this basis, the spatial location is further incorporated into this study.Employing ArcGIS for visual processing,Kernel Density for analyzing pedestrian time and spatial characteristics, the differences in the intensity of contact, the scope of activities and the background of behavioral activities of social interactions are obtained. Then, through the SPSS correlation statistical analysis method, the relationship between social interaction behavior and street space environment is explored.(2)The subjective evaluation method is employed to supplement the social demanding and environmental preferences of pedestrian basic attributes. The SPSS correlation statistics method is also used to test and supplement the relationship between social behavior and the street. Finally, based on the analysis results, the principles and strategies of livable street optimization are proposed. It is advocated to promote interpersonal relationship network and form a regional and lasting neighborhood relationship through planning and design in urban community-level livable streets.
