The side impact beam is installed between the inner and outer of the panels, which can reduce the car side impact intrusion and strengthen the stiffness of the door. Through the hot stamping process, the side impact beam not only improves the strength of parts but also achieves the lightening of the automotive to meet the requirements of energy-saving and emission reduction. As an automobile manufacturing process, the hot stamping is a complex forming technology which combines the forming with the quenching, and the quenching parameters is particularly important to the quality of the work piece.Therefore, in this paper, the side impact beam is taken as the research object. The numerical simulation method is used to analyze the influence factors of the hot stamping quenching process and the ideal parameters of the quenching process are obtained by optimization. The main contents are as follows.(1) The theory of the conjugate heat transfer of the quenching is introduced. According to the technical characteristic of the hot stamping, the process analysis of the side impact beam is carried out, and then the assembly which consists of the die, the work piece and the cooling system is established.(2) Because the computer software can’t meet the requirement of quenching simulation for the overall side impact beam, a representative segment is chosen as the research object. The initial temperature field of the quenching process is obtained through analyzing the forming process by using the ABAQUS simulation software. Then the quenching process of the hot stamping is simulated through the FLUENT simulation software. On this basis, the factors of the quenching process are analyzed and the influence of various factors on quenching is studied comprehensively and a technology improvement scheme is put forward.(3) Contrary to the situation of designing the die cooling system based on the experience, the orthogonal design method is used to obtain ideal parameters of the quenching process, and the rationality of parameters as well as the security and reliability of die designed are analyzed and verified by means of the numerical simulation.
