Three-dimensional process planning has been a promising trend in modern manufacturing system with the development of three-dimensional CAD technology. Focusing on the problem in the research of three-dimensional process planning, the paper includes the following work:(1) According to the demand of box design, we study the box design-manufacture integration mode and then put forward the box design-manufacture integration frame based on the uniform data model. The uniform data model was implanted all across development cycle of the box design in order to guarantee the uniqueness and integrity of the data source.(2) A model oriented manufacturing resource capability through the analyzing of the definition of manufacturing resource and the information of manufacture resource capability is presented. The model includes the formalization description of machine tool, cutter and fixture capacity information and machining method base.(3) The method of feature recognition oriented box parts through analyzing the feature of box parts is presented. First, we studied the properties of face and side in face adjacency graph. Then, we analyzed the definition of user defined feature and face adjacency graph representation in common used box features. At last, we researched the identification method of matching user defined feature in the box design model.(4) The grouping of manufacturing cells is researched and a method of optimal process planning based on manufacturing cells is presented. This method is achieved by a hybrid algorithm combined simulated annealing algorithms with ant colony algorithm.(5) The box design-manufacturing integration platform and three-dimensional process planning system based on the theory in this paper was developed.
