As the running speed of the high speed EMU is increasing constantly, the required force for braking is also increasing. So the requirement of the adhere force between wheels and rails is becoming stricter. According to tests, the faster trains travel, the smaller the coefficient of adhere force will be. It can result in the scratch of the wheel, because the idling or skid are easily happened, especially running in the wet wheel. It brings safety hidden dangers for the running high speed EMU, so it is especially important to install the adhere increasing device between the wheel and rail in the high speed EMU.According to the investigation, this issue firstly presents the statistic analysis on the methods of increasing adhere forces of the train all over the word. Then according to the analysis and comparison between the different structure of tread cleaning device, the research orientation on tread cleaning device of high speed EMU is determined. Secondly, based on the requirement of the high speed EMU, the overall structure design of the tread cleaning device is made. And more attention has been paid to the clearance adjustment device, the brake head connection device. The disassembly device of the abrasive block and the structure of the abrasive block. Thirdly, to insure that the tread cleaning device, especially the brake head connection device, has enough strength, the static analysis on the tread cleaning device is made by using ABAQUS. Fourthly, the research on the manufacture process of the piston rod, especially the welding process and surface nickel plating process. According to different methods of test, the performances of action fatigue, torsion moment fatigue, vibration fatigue, structure intensity, wheel and brake matching and adhere force increasing for the tread cleaning device are validated to make sure that the product fulfil the design requirement.The research direction is confirmed based on the technical investigation. The structure is designed based on the product requirement. The technical requirements and the improvement of adhere force between wheel and rail are guaranteed by researching and validating the manufacture technical of key parts. As a result, the safety for the running of high speed EMU is stably guaranteed.
