According to the development of modular, integrated and open system architecture in the design of avionics system, higher requirements are attached to the network bandwidth, time-delay, scalability, power consumption and cost, especially the demands of high performance and low power consumption. The FC-AE-1553 network based on fibre channel is gradually used in the field of aviation electronics for its high bandwidth, low latency, and good scalability. However, the shortcomings of high power consumption and high cost also bring many problems, especially for aerospace system which is sensitive to power consumption, so further research on this protocol is extremely important. In this research, we make a deep analysis on the FC-AE-1553 protocol. The main results achieved in this research are listed as below:1. A star optical coupling(SOC) topology supported by FC-AE-1553 protocol is proposed, and some extended designs for protocol stack are carried out. It mainly includes the design of the transmission link, link synchronization, port register and login, format exchange mode design, improved network control algorithm, the terminal fault detection, energy saving design, and so on.2. The performance of FC-AE-1553 network using SOC topology is discussed. MATLAB is applied in the topological modeling and simulation. We analyze the performance of our proposed network in many ways, such as cost, node scalability, mission reliability, network time-delay, and network power consumption. Compared with other three standard topologies, our proposed topology has the significant advantages of low power consumption and low network cost.3. The FC-AE-1553 network node in SOC topology is realized and tested. The logic circuits of extending FC-AE-1553 protocol stack are implemented by FPGA. A system control interface is built through the memory reading and writing. The function is tested by multi-node network in SOC topology.
