With the rapid development of economy technology, market has enteredinto a fully competitive era of the buyer, and the user’s demand forpersonalization and customization products becomes higher and higher.In orderto meet the needs of user personalization and customization products, theapplication of digital rapid design system to improve the design quality, shortenthe design cycle, and reduce design costs has become an important means ofenterprise to obtain competitive adcantage. As the important part of digitaldesign, assembly is one of the core functions of rapid design system.Especiallyfor the product that assembly relationship is relatively fixed like semi-trailer,how conveniently and quickly add part and assemblies of manufacturer, capturethe designer’s assembly intent and recognise assembly relationship of parts andassemblies has become a bottleneck problem of the large-scale application ofsemi-trailer rapid design system.Assembly feature recognition technology is that assembly systemautomatically recognise the assembly relationship between parts and thenassembly relationship is bullt according the assembly intent of designer.Besides,assembly sequence, disssembly sequence and assembly path are planned automatically.This technology simplifies the assembly modeling and enhancesflexibility and intelligence of system assembly relationship definition. Based onthis idea, this paper puts forward we should use the assembly feature recognitiontechnology to recognize the assembly feature of semi-trailer and use ADOdatabase object technology to access geometrical element and mate type of themain parts and assemblies stored in the assembly feature library. Then based onassembly feature recognition technology, this paper puts forward the rapidassembly method suitable for semi-trailer after analyzing the assembly featuresof semi-trailer parts and assemblies deeply. Under the guidance of this method,semi-trailer part models are built and assembly sequence is determined.Therapid assembly of semi-trailer parts and assemblies is finished by developingassembly feature recognition program and assembly constraint program.The main contents are as follows:1. The paper puts forward assembly feature recognition theory suitable forsemi-trailer assembly on the basis of making a deep analysis and research oftraditional assembly feature recognition theory and summarizing all assemblyfeatures of semi-trailer parts and assemblies.2. Assembly features of semi-trailer part and assemblies are classified andassembly feature models are built by reuse library.3. Based on the theory of semi-trailer assembly feature recognition, thispaper puts forward rapid assembly method suitable for semi-trailer assemblyafter making a deep analysis of assembly features of semi-trailer parts and assemblies.Based on database development tools, the assembly feature library ofsemi-trailer parts and assembly is established.4. The assembly sequence of semi-trailer parts and assemblies isdedermined through assembly sequence planning.5. Under the guidance of assembly feature recognition theory andsemi-trailer rapid assembly method, the paper firstly uses ADO database objecttechnology to identify geometrical elements and mate types of the main partsand assemblies stored in the assembly feature library.And then assemblyconstraint is imposed and solved.At last, the corresponding assembly action isperformed, the rapid assembly of semi-trailer parts and assemblies is realized.
