Design On Intelligent Substation IED Of Switchgear Based On IEC61850

With the proposal of Intelligent Substation Construction, a unified communication protocol is required in the primary equipment within the substation intelligent. The traditional IEDs(Intelligent Electronic Device, IED) in substation don’t adopt unified communication protocol standards, which makes them cannot communicate with each other, even cannot share information in the substation. However, the new generation of IED in intelligent substation station requires unified protocol standard, which make it possible to share the whole information. With the construction of intelligent substation in our country, it has become the inevitable trend of developing IED which follows the IEC61850 standard in smart grid.In this paper, firstly, it briefly describes the research of IEC61850 protocol standards and switchgear IED in domestic and overseas, and it describes core content of IEC61850 in detail.Secondly, through analysis of on-line monitoring system for intelligent substation, it gives the whole architecture of switchgear. In the respect of hardware design, considering the function of IED, we choose ARM and DSP processors. We complete the design of software on the basis of hardware platform.Finally, this paper analyzes the IEC61850 modeling methods and modeling steps, we establishes switchgear IED information model through setting out logical node of it. Also the research focuses on the switchgear IED. We put forward and establish communication schemes with MMS communication server model of switchgear IED MMS on the basis of the key technology of switchgear IED IEC61850 communication. It can simulate MMS communication through computer and switchgear IED, and it can capture the message in the process of the communication by Wireshark.This designed switchgear IED has been installed in the East Yinchuan intelligent substation. Through the analysis of the operational data on site, it showed that the switchgear IED can implement IEC61850 communication successfully. The development of this device is set foundation to replace the traditional substation IED; meanwhile, it provides a powerful guarantee for the construction of smart substation.
