The stability and reliability of electrical equipment in substations are the foundationof power grid operation. Condition monitoring system in substations can reflect theoperation condition of electrical equipment, so it becomes more and more important andnecessary. Now the condition monitoring in traditional substations is mainly by offlinedetecting. The method of online monitoring is seldom applied. So there are manyproblems of the condition monitoring in traditional substations. For example, variousonline monitoring system cannot be compatible with IEC61850and range of conditionmonitoring is limited. Although the system can collect large condition data, the usage ofthe data is very limited. The development of smart substation is the opportunity topromote the technology of online monitoring and resolve the problems of conditionmonitoring.Based on in-depth analysis and study of the problems of current conditionmonitoring system and correlative technologies in smart substations, the paper first putforward design schemes of structure and interfaces of condition monitoring system intwo situations of constructing smart substations and traditional substations respectively. Then taking power transformer and circuit breaker as examples, the paper builds theinformation models of condition monitoring system based on IEC61850, put forwardtwo models of master IEDs as the proxy or gateway for different slave IEDs. Finally, the prototype system developed by IEC61850Li is illustrated, in which the keytechnologies such as modeling of IEDs, the sequence diagram of services and thereal-time database are described. The developed prototype system verifies the feasibilityfrom aspects of modeling, protocols and applications.
