Engine is the heart of a car since it provides power. With increasing requirement of vehicle performance, better engine design is strongly needed. New engines should be tested before equipping vehicles. It has high requirements of the measurement and control system for bench test because of context variation, long duration, fast sample frequency and high precision.Virtual instrument technology has great advantages in the field of measurement and control. Instead of traditional instruments, software could implement the automatical measurement and data analysis. Moreover, software reusability and modularity can improve economical efficiency and scalability of engine test system. In this paper, in order to solve the scalability, a measurement and control system is designed for engine test based on virtual instrument. PC-DAQ mode is chosen for system construction. Software design and development is finished through the most representative graphical programming platform Lab VIEW. Different modules including data acquisition, data record and control are integrated, which are called uniformly to test the engine precisely and effectively. In addition, monitor screens for each test are designed. At last, data management is researched through LabSQL for access to test database. The system is tested in the production. The results show that the measure and control system meets the requirement of bench test. Functions of data acquisition, real-time monitor and data record are implemented. The system takes the advantages of virtual instrument and computer technology, with low cost, easy operation and friendly human-computer interface. Modularity and database technology make the system extensible.
