Currently manufacturing enterprises commonly use2D software tool such asAutoCAD for planning of process layout. But in this way it’s so difficult to find spaceinterferometry, logistics channel congestion and other defects of layout. With thedevelopment and application of virtual reality technology and3D digital technology, itcan be possible for interactive process layout in virtual3D environment. Combined withactual demand of enterprise, the key technologies related to Interactive3D ProcessLayout System are focused on research. And the system is verified over an actual case.Firstly, methods of the manufacturing resource information modeling and descriptionare studied. The3D-layout-oriented manufacturing resources information models arecreated. Manufacturing resource objects are classified; information elements anddatabase storage structure of workpieces, process and equipment resources are analyzed;the intermediate data of the manufacturing resource model is defined using XML; thedata interface for information indexing between system and database is implemented.Secondly, the paper studied the OSG virtual reality platform based3D interactivelayout technic. The key technologies of layout planning under3D virtual environmentsare studied on the pickup technology, control technology, interactive scene roamingtechnology and3D model path roaming technology, respectively. The interactivity ofthe system is realized. A real time model collision detection mechanism is built throughbounding box based collision detection and safety distance measurement technic, thustaking the safety distance between machines into consideration and ensuring the safetyof the layout.After that, the3D visualization technique of the workshop logistics information isstudied. At first the information model of process route for visualization is built; virtualpath nodes are set up and the shortest path is found and visualized using the Dijkstraalgorithm. The information of logistics quantity is modelled with a3D visualizationcriteria built. The logistics quantity information is also visualized.Finally, based on the key technologies above, the overall framework of interactive3Dprocess layout system is designed, the key functional elements of the system areanalysed. At last, the whole system is used and verified over an actual study.
