Analysis And Evaluation On Road Network Capacity

Road network is a network consists of sections and intersections. Road network capacity means the numbers of vehicles which road network can accommodates in or pass through a limited road space during a certain period. The capacity is significant for city development and reflects city traffic situation to some extent. The paper studied road capacity intensively and concluded the number of maximum service traffic by unit time and space on the condition that road network under constraints of resource. The results can provide data and theoretical basis for urban transport programming and help planners make accurate decisions by understanding traffic situation properly. The main contents of the paper include following aspects:Outline domestic and external research history and development status of the road network capacity. Analyze the primary meanings and functions of road network capacity in urban transport programming, as well as main elements that affect road network capacity. Study the current algorithm of road network capacity and analyze the problems and inadequates.Put forward the concept—coefficient of utilization of space-time and resource based on studying space-time consumption-method, mean while figure out the effective space-time resource. Modeling the model that calculates road network capacity by basic capacity of road network and intersection capacity in the condition of ensuring the coast is clear. Measure level of service of road network by using saturation quota of road network. Calculate road network capacity of Xi’an Road business district of Dalian base on actual measurement data of its main roads; get its unit time maximum service traffic volume; evaluate its service level in rush hour. Conclude the study results and the drawbacks of the paper, and offer proposals for future study. Hope that it is helpful to plan urban road network and consummate the theory of traffic engineering.
