To the point of capacity of road network, combined the subject of arterial project studies of network of highways in Tianjin", this thesis mainly make deeper studying in the function of traffic individual consumption of time and space and Cut Set method in road network planning.Bearing the transporting amount of majority in the road network, the arterial road network is a component of the whole road network. The sureness of its capacity can offer the theoretical foundation of basic data and quantization for the communications and transportation of the city is planned and management. The research of its capacity is an indispensable part for perfecting the traffic engineering theory. On the basis of reading the relevant research documents of capacity of road network, I have been analyzed the method and progress studied about the relevant capacity of road network in various countries. At present, there are several kinds of the capacity method of the road network, such as: the consumption of time and space method, the law of linear programming at present, the Cut Set method, the simulation law, the model of capacity of road network of the narrow sense and supplying the analytic approach that the traffic distributes. To the point of real road network planning, this thesis mainly has systematical discuss two important problems in the arterial network of highways to Tianjin based on the consumption of time and space method and the Cut Set method. And we also can get the theory formulae about the resource of time and space of traffic individual in the consumption of time and space method. Further more, and we have realized the application of the Cut Set method in the road network planning by VC ++ procedure.In the end of the paper I summarized the fruits of my work and I put up directional suggestions of researching emphases for the future. I hope it have valuable try for the study on capacity of urban road network.
