With the speeding up of world economic globalization and integration, the global maritime transport network is gradually formed. Along with strong growth of the global demand for cargo in recent years,transportation trunk line and container hub port have emergenced with the development of shipping technology. Large vessels are more and more favored by the carriers. As one of the most important port of China east coast, Ningbo port is a high quality natural deepwater harbor. After the great development in recent years, as an important part of Shanghai international shipping center and famous deep-water harbor, Ningbo port has built41large vessels’berths. And the number of large ships handled by pilots increases year by year. Some accidents and immediate danger happened to large vessels frequently. Therefore it is an important subject for Ningbo pilots that how can they avoid the risks and accidents brought by large ships.This thesis, according to the maneuverability characteristics of large vessels,take the actual situation as a starting point, combining with my own ten-year-experience as a pilot, has completed "Dangers to pilot maneuvering large vessels in Ningbo port "questionnaire. According to the analysis of the questionnaire compiled, the research find out the main factors affecting pilot handling large vessels in Ningbo port, and explore its distribution and regular pattern. After that, matrix manipulation is produced in order to visually display dangers to pilot maneuvering large vessels in Ningbo port. Coping strategies are formulated in order to contribute my share for the safety of large vessels and the healthy development of Ningbo pilot.
