Because of its high strength, strong rigidity and specific characteristics, the composite material has caught the attention of various industries. The steel sandwich plate developed by IE in conjunction with BASF which consists of two steel plates which separated by a continuous elastomer core was one kind of the composite laminates. Thus the steel sandwich plate which reduced structural complexity and production costs has used in naval architecture as a new type of composite materials. With the improvement of the SPS technology, the steel sandwich plate has been gradually adopted in ship construction and repair. In the present, the vibration and noise characteristic of the steel sandwich plate has studied, the main points of the paper can be summarized as follow:Firstly, the Reissner assumption is used to analyse the bending and stress status of the steel sandwich plate which is under uniformed loading. The paper will give some introduction about some kinds of equivalent models. Based on the Tsai-Hill failure criterion, we conduct a study on the ultimate strength of the steel sandwich plates.Secondly, the Hoff linear theory was applied to analyze the vibration performance of sandwich plate and simplify the computational formula of four-edge simply supported sandwich plate. Compare the results of analytical solution and finite element simulation with the help of the finite element software ANSYS.Thirdly, based on the provisional rules for the application of sandwich panels, the modification of a small multi-purpose vessel was carried out. Comparison of the original multi-purpose vessel and the modified one to analyze the situation of local vibration. Finally, the article gives some introduction to the basic theory of the acoustical principle and the Statistical Energy Analysis method. Using the VA One software to compare the noise of the SPS structures and the original one.
