With the high-speed development of society, also according to the basic state policy ofrelying on science and education to develop our country, China has made a great effort toexpand the scale of higher education cause. In order to create a superior learning environment,campus environment construction is ongoing. Waterfront can be used as one of the mostimportant part of the campus landscape, it plays a prominent role in improving the campusenvironment. However, due to the effect of the northern regional features, the waterscapelandscape of universities which are located in the northern China shows a different landscapeimagery. And the issue of water resources, cold climate, and system composition factors havegreatly restricted the shaping of campus water system and development of landscape artisticconception. Therefore, it has became a main purpose of shaping the campus landscapewaterscape to create a culture of unique artistic conception which can achieve a long-termecological benefits, also meet the teachers and students daily recreation activities at the sametime. Based on this background, this paper is related to the actual case of part of the northerncolleges and universities, from the perspective of landscape design in northern universitieshave water system landscape design problems are analyzed。This paper is mainly about how to design water landscape in landscape design.According to deeply research into the northern waterscape landscape and campus landscape,analyzed ang got a new definition for the design basis, design principle, and the reasonablemethod of design of the campus water landscape.Through the analysis for actual cases insome north universities, summarize the design problem for water system landscape. Thencombine the designing, ecology, and psychology knowledge, aiming at the people-orientedprinciple, design a viable principle and method to solve the problems in condition ofecological sustainability. At last, according to the principle and method, work out a designwhich can really improve the environment, suit the campus culture and meet the participatehydrophilism. This design will provide some reference and feedback for northern university water system landscape design in the future.
