| Natural water has the most direct and affinity relationship with people's daily life. With the improvement of city environments which people need it , more and more waterscape are being building, so people attach more importance to waterscape design. Because of mostly people want to own waterscape by himself, so waterscape are being building here and there from mild and wet southern to cold and aridity northern. Moreover, most residential area with high quality environments must own beautiful waterscape, which has become popular. However, being limited water resource and water pollute, ruining of natural water ecosystem. how to construct reasonable waterscape , how to keep sustained-development of water resources ,which is the most important question people should think about when they build an new waterscape.This article studied on the northern city waterscape, by system analysis the character of northern waterscape nowadays, the author draw some conclusion about waterscape design. Firstly the article recounts the development of traditional water-management art of China, and then analyzes the development of present water-management art, finally according to practice; the author gives some suggestions about northern water-management art with the direct of ecology and ethology.Waterscape design should attach importance to the localization, corresponding to the situation of the local climate and water resources, according with people's esthetic direction and the content.Our country faced with severe water resources shortage. In order to alleviate this crisis, the government made a call for saving water and building water-saving city. In order to realize the sustainable development of cities'water resources, waterscape design should attach importance to the ecology and resources economy, combined with the rain utilization system, the artificial everglade system and the median water utilization system in the garden, to promote the water cycle.Waterscape design should attach importance to the function. As a way of artistic expression, waterscape design should also provide people with a space for entertainment.
