Globalization is an overwhelming trend all around the world, and it also affects landscape design in a large degree. The style of western garden also dominates current landscape design in China. Either the design in residential quarters, or that of parks which have large scales, both imitate the style of the west which is called "advanced model". As a result, the environment is becoming far away from its culture and people. It is true that "no communication, no progress". The development of our world is forced by the intercourse of different countries and peoples. But direct copy of another culture undigestedly will lead to landscape without vitality, and theses landscape will stand for a certain number of years. On the other hand, misusing high-tech, new materials, and pursuing western style blindly are far-ranging in present Chinese landscape design. The modern western design, which represents avant-courier ideology and advanced technique, is easily to be imitated, even replicated, but hard to be comprehended and expressed. The ultimate of design is caring for people. So how can we talk about a design style in the care of people, at the same time, ignoring its natural culture, territory and race? It is said that "national is international", so the landscape design which keeps the characteristics of its local culture will be accepted and favored by residents and visitors truely. However, landscape design is a comprehensive subject, so this paper could only focus on waterscape design. The author makes some researches on the influence of traditional Chinese culture, to summarize its development and application, which are both for finding out the base of traditional Chinese waterscape design and expressing the meaningful Chinese culture. In the Meantime, respecting both nature and humanity become the trend of modern waterscape design. The ideology of modern waterscape design should emphasize the dynamic balance between nature and human beings. The naturally and persistentlydeveloping design method, which indicates the essence of the local culture and time spirit, will have true vitality.
