Road of tidal phenomenon makes the city traffic jam is more serious, the phenomenon to cause much inconvenience for drivers and pedestrians in the usual life. In order to alleviate the tidal transport phenomena which cause the traffic problem, and improve the utilization rate of roads and intersections, it is urgent to find the measures to solve the problem of the tidal traffic. This paper comprehensively studies the variable lane research theory and methods, and tries to summarize and sum up, on this basis, explores the causes of the tidal traffic, this paper analyzes the characteristics of the tidal traffic, put forward the way to reduce tidal traffic problems, it is using the variable lane to realize the switch of reasonable period of time, using the signal control system, the guidance of variable signs such as infrastructure, for now is a kind of effective methods to relieve the tidal traffic problems.The tidal variable lane consists of driving direction variable lane and guide variable lane. This paper studies the optimization control method of the variable lane, for example zhongnan road in Dalian as the driving direction variable lane as an example, based on optimization model of lane road impedance, determine the steps of setting the variable lane, and come to an specific conclusion. In addition to the intersection of Yuanlin rode Gongnong city and219park in Anshan city as the research object, discusses the feasibility of variable lane layout. Finally, the VISSIM software is used to simulate respectively before and after layout the driving direction variable lane on the road and guide variable lane variable lane in the direction. To contrast the speed before and after layout driving direction variable lane, to contrast the vehicle delay, parking time and stops before and after layout guide variable lane, the results show that the rational utilization of variable lane can improve the stretch of road speed, reduce the index of intersection delay, parking time and stops, and improve the traffic capacity of roads and intersections. In the end summarizes the main content in this paper, and the related research in the future.
