Parking and Ride (P&R) system is widely adopted by developed countries to alleviate thetraffic jam problem of the Central Business District (CBD) area in big cities. Focusing on thetraffic jam problem of the main city and the connections between the main and sub-cities, astudy is conducted in this thesis to discuss the possibility of using P&R in Dongshan vise-cityto solve the traffic aforementioned problems. Based on the traffic situation of the main and thesub-city, the travel behavior of the citizens and the policies on land planning, the necessity ofP&R is analyzed; depending on the existing railway traffic infrastructures and the guidance ofthe beneficial policies, the feasibility of the P&R in Dongshan vise-city is discussed.According to the survey data from metro stations, a mathematical model (logit model) isdeveloped for demand forecasting thus the contribution rate can be calculated. As an examplefor demonstration, the stations along the metro line3is analysis according to the situation ofland use and planning, according to the requirements for a P&R site, the Chengxindadao isselected as a P&R station, further design rules for the layout of facilities, the space design andthe auxiliary components are studied; implementation schemes on construction of facilities,the policies of charging and management are also given. The study in this thesis aiming toprovide references on the P&R planning in Dongshan vise-city area and to offer alternatives toalleviate the traffic jam problem in the main city and the connections between the main andsub-cities of Nanjing.
