The application of Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) greatly increased the capacity oftransportation and decreased the travelling time for the passengers. Due to the highoperation speed of EMU, the management of key components is extremely important inthe EMU because the failure of the key component during the operation can result insevere accident. In this study, the principle of lifecycle management was applied on thekey component management, and the key component management was successfullyimproved and the safety operation of EMU was guaranteed. The paper studied the methodology of lifecycle management of key component ofEMU. Five status of key component during the lifecycle were defined, namely new, backup, in-service, maintenance and scrap. Three stages of lifecycle of key componentwere defined as new, in-service and scrap. The transformation of the status of keycomponent during these three stages was discussed, together with the methodology ofthe management of key information of the lifecycle of key component. Considering theamount of information during the management of the lifecycle of the key component, itis necessary to utilize the information systems to manage the information of lifecycle ofkey component. This paper also established and studied the platform of lifecycle management ofkey component of EMU. The systematic aims were proposed, the requirement of thelifecycle management of EMU was analyzed, the platform of information system oflifecycle management of key component of EMU was established, and the functions ofthe system were elaborated.Through the discussion on the methodology of lifecycle management of keycomponent of EMU, the information system and the lifecycle management of keycomponent were successfully integrated, which is of novelty.
