This paper introduces the present situation of application of geogrid reinforced soil retaining wall and the development of heavy haul railway in the domestic and foreign. Separately from three aspects that the calculation theory of earth pressure,the calculation theory of horizontal deformation and vertical deformation summarized the theoretical calculation of embankment reinforced earth retaining wall.This paper takes Zhang Tang heavy haul railway as the engineering background.The field test was conducted to research the stress and deformation characteristics of the embankment reinforced soil retaining wall in the construction stage.The test results were analyzed to study the stress and deformation mechanism of the embankment reinforced soil retaining wall.Finally, the characteristics of the retaining wall under construction stage and train load were analysis by Plaxis finite element software,the analytical results were compared with the results of the field test analysis, the deformation characteristics and other aspects of embankment RSRW were studied in-depth through field tests and numerical simulation.The base vertical earth pressure,the compressive stress within the soil retaining wall,the panel horizontal earth pressure and geogrid strain in the construction phase were observed by different observers elements buried in the retaining wall.By analyzing the data the vertical earth pressure in the retaining wall, horizontal earth pressure,force of geogrid,rupture surface location and other characteristics obtained in the form of research.and reinforcement rupture surface location and other characteristics were studied.The finite element software — Plaxis was used to analyse the internal stress situation and deformation of the retaining wall and stress situation of geogrid,etc referred to the actual engineering design section, geological conditions and the actual working conditions.Then compared the simulation results and the test results to research the force and deformation mechanism of embankment RSRW further.Since the rail line was not operating, so at this stage can not observe the operatingcharacteristics of the retaining wall under train load in the field.In this paper,trains and track loads were equivalented to static load in accordance with the design specifications of heavy rail.The stress and deformation characteristics of embankment RSRW under train loads were studied by finite element analysis software.
