Minimalism landscape, first appeared in the 1960 s, originated from minimalist are. It had been developed thoroughly during the last half century and shaped into unique landscape features. Minimalism landscape followed the French classical gardening design concept at the beginning, then traditional elements evolved in forms of landscaping, ratio scale, plant cultivation to cater to the trend of modernism in landscape design. This was integrated with the core spirit of Japanese ancient garden, which strengthened the expression of geographic cultures. On the aspect of Minimalism, the thesis analyzed the generation and development of Minimalism at first and explored how the minimalism influenced on other fields afterwards. Secondly, the paper focuses on the gardening features, comparing with Minimalism landscape and exploring the inheritance between French classical gardening and Minimalism landscape. Thirdly, the Japanese dry garden gardening elements and humanity are researched to reveal the form revolution of Minimalism and the reference to the dry landscape spiritual core. Last but not the least,through the above three points of interpretation, the paper puts forward the author’s thinking to the minimalism landscape, as well as the challenge for the future.
