Nowadays, the development and reform of China’s economy, science and technology, and medical model make hospitals experience great innovation in values, functions and spatial designs. With spiritual guide of "putting people first" and ideas of sustainable development of the age, further study of design and research of signage system in modern hospitals should be made as there are some existing problems need to be resolved.Innovation of design concept are researched from the view of "humanization" and "individualization". "Elements of design", "pattern of design " and "individualized design" are increasingly innovated. Information channels produced by normative emotional signage-oriented system not only become communicative bridges between doctors and patients but also beautify environment, pass on cultural message and shape brand image. Medical group includes doctors, patients and patients’ relatives, whose spiritual and material demand has been increasing. Advantages and disadvantages of modern hospitals’ management mode, medical technology, environment and attitude are all influenced. Design of hospital’s label cannot meet the demand as modern hospitals are developing, equipments are increasing and medical spatial environment is becoming complicated. It’s urgent to introduce VI system, strengthen the construction of hospitals’ modernization and perfect the design of hospital’s signage system.Based on normative study of signage system, this paper analyzes individualized design and innovative concept by studying the characters and functions of individualized design. Concepts expressed in pictures, writings and colors in individualized design are more rich and interesting. Individualized design is based on functions and theories. Innovative design with combination of individualization and rationality embodies more cultural and emotional elements.The design and implementation of signage system in medical environment is in the period of research and development. There are experiences can be learnt from foreign countries. The concept of individualized design needs researching and application. Further studies of how to embody individualized, interesting and artistic characters need to be made by studying regional culture, medical style and medical-seeking people. Comfort and beautiful medical environment is good to relax patients’ feelings, percept the effects of signage system of medical environment.The development and problems of individualized design are analyzed. Plans are made according to cases from investigation, with more attention is paid to normative and individualized design concept and methods.
