The Research Of Traditional Residence In Suzhou

This articles starts from the culture of WU district, and discusses the beginning, development and characteristics of it specifically from the aspect of history and era. Then this article will research the relationship between the WU Culture and Suzhou-style residence, and that how the WU Culture has been influencing the residence in Suzhou. Traditional Suzhou-style residence is a very typical kind of structure in the development of all varieties of buildings in Suzhou. This essay elaborates the classic characteristics of white wall black tile and set by water, also relates and analyzes the traditional residence in Suzhou systemically, from the points of the combination of two-dimension layout and three-dimension in and out, and the spacial relationship between residence and alleys or rivers. We also analyzed the Suzhou-Style residence in the view of Chinese Traditional Culture, which highlights the historic meaning of Suzhou-Style residence, the carrier of WU Culture. This article gives a detailed analyze about the traditional residences in Suzhou in a special way, from residential block to single architecture to partial components to decorative elements. Besides the author surveyed and mapped many classic residences on the spot. Basing on all above, this article proposes an idea of preserving the WU Culture in the process of renovating and repairing traditional residence in Suzhou. It states how important to preserve traditional living styles by case analyzing. Hope this essay may be a reference of constructing of human residential area.
