Population aging has already been globally popular since last century. Meanwhile, this p henomenon in China is also increasingly affecting human lives. The changes of all relavant tr ades and professions become more and more prominant driven by the aging of population. M ost significant issues being focusing on are medication for seniors. Moreover, the reality of "a ging before getting rich" results in the medical issue for seniors more outstanding. The discuss ing point in this thesis is for addressing the requirements of medication for seniors. In a specif ic perspective of geriatric hospital, nursing unit is the most cruicial functional space. To distin guish the geriatric hospitals from others, the dimensional pattern and the design of internal sp aces would give us an answer. The objective of this thesis is providing solutions for senior pat ients to enjoy more comfortable, more convenient and safer nursing units. The logically analysis in this thesis is from macroscopic to microcosmic, from easy to co mplicated. Firstly, the situation of population aging in China was described. Additionally, the concept and specificity of geriatric hospital was clarified. The requirement of medical resours e and expectation is demonstrated through the investigation and further study. Refering to the 2-D format of general hospical, a medical spatial pattern specific for senior patient was propo sed and detailed into the spatial design. The patient comfort and convenience was seriously co ncerned in the ultimate design. The research objective of this thesis is proposing references for the design of geriatric ho spital nursing unit. Moreover, this nursing unit is further developed in the process of designin g spatial pattern, in order to improve the medical service for seniors. Afterwards, medication, nursing and recovery of senior patients can be enhanced to promise a better living quality.
