Energy saving has become more and more important for the global climate change and energy consumption. This makes the latching relay become a mainstream product. The hot topic is how to develop a latching relay with lower coil consumption, more reliable operation and low cost. According to the research on typical structure of magnetic system for latching relay, this paper presents a new design of magnetic system which brings about a latching relay with small size, high sensitivity, simple structure and low cost.Firstly, this paper analyses three typical structures of magnetic system for latching relay:serial-type, parallel-type and bridge-type. The advantages and disadvantages of different types of magnetic system are presented via the simulation analysis on the 3D magnetic field by using the Ansoft Maxwell. A thin magnet is designed to get low magnetic resistance of magnetic system; short-circuited of the magnet by yoke to reduce the magnet force at drop-out status. Besides, through the armature in the shape of "L", the magnetic system is similar to parallel-type, and this ensures the stability of the armature status. Then make simulation analysis of the mechanical system with the ANSYS workbench, to get a good cooperation of electromagnetic attractive force and mechanical reaction force. Furthermore study the heat generated in different working status through the simulation analysis by the software ANSYS workbench to ensure that the temperature rise does not exceed the limits and the relay works reliably.Based on the analysis and calculation above, HF163F-L is designed with the consideration of manufacturability. With reference of the simulation analysis results, the measured values of electromagnetic attractive force and mechanical reaction force have some differences. However, the variation and trend are the same. The actual set and reset of this relay meet the design requests. This verifies the reference values of the simulation analysis. Moreover, the comparison is also made between the measured temperature rise and it simulation analysis results. By the error analysis, the simulation model is improved with values closer to the actual ones.Moreover, the trial run and experiments for HF163F-L are arranged. Its technical performance has reached the same level as similar foreign products. The product has the advantages of small size, low coil consumption, strong load capacity, simple structure and is suitable for the automatic production. It can be widely used in intelligent household control systems, and it will have great market.
