The peony is one of the top ten traditional famous flowers in China. Because of its extremely rich germplasm resources, it is one of the very important ornamental plants species in Chinese gardens. According to records, peony had been begun planting in Han Dynasty, peony has gradually became a part of people’s daily life through the continuous development of Tang, Song, Yuan-Ming-Qing Dynasty. It becomes an important part of the peony culture connotation that its meaning of elegant, the moral of prosperity and happiness. The cultivation and application style of Peony gradually develop into the peony garden from the single ancient garden in flower beds or flower terraces. In the modern landscape architecture, peony garden is the main form of ornamental planting peony filled in varieties of peony. It is not only enriched landscape architecture application forms of peony, but also played a promoting role in introduction and domestication, resources protection and science popularization education. The paper main researches results are as follows:1. It has understand deeply the classification of peony, the ornamental characteristics and ecological habits, the history of peony’s cultivation and unique cultural meaning carried. Our country has a long history of cultivation of peony and formed the unique peony culture in poetry, painting, flower arrangement and folk.2. It tries to know about the development of specialized garden both at home and abroad and to have certain understanding in peony gardens and concepts. Clarifying the peony gardens of the history of development and comparing the differences between the peony gardens at home and abroad. It is concluded that the main reason for the gap is the peony resources, the different culture and history.3. The planning and design methods of peony gardens are pointed out in the paper. Depending on the different terrain in sites, the peony gardens can be divided into three categories: mountain peony gardens, terraced peony gardens, the ground peony gardens. Peony is more suitable for growth shaded in a certain condition of mountain due to its physiological property of avoiding waterlogging, heliophilous but not resistant to sunlight. The flat planting peony needs to create good growth environment by artificial drainage and appropriate plant configuration. The peony garden is given priority to with peony planting,varieties of peony design and color, summary of flowering and pattern classification, considering the complex layer type of plant community to make peonies with some other plants configuration more reasonable to build four seasons landscapes.At the same time, using the architectural essays and other service facilities to strengthen the peony culture connotation.4. As the mountain peony gardens in oil use peony of industrial ecological garden in Jiaoniu village, Wuxiang Town Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province an example, reasonable planning and design are carried out on the field and plant configuration to prove the feasibility of the methods in this paper.
