Cold mix asphalt was produced and constructed at normal temperature,both saving emission reduction and protecting environment. However, the road performance of cold mix asphalt still had a certain gap cored with hot mix, unable to adapt to the transport needs. Waterborne epoxy resin could obviously improve the performance of emulsified asphalt, the product was expected having advantages both of emulsified asphalt and waterborne epoxy resin, which was capable of carrying reasonably heavy to extremely heavy traffic in China.Two waterborne epoxy modified by chemical grafting was chosen and studied the factors affecting the curing process. The results showed that the key to the quality of waterborne epoxy curing was whether water in film could evaporate. The strength of cured rigid epoxy was higher, but it was difficult demulsified at room temperature. The flexible epoxy was easy demulsified while its strength was lower than rigid epoxy.After the comparison, flexible waterborne epoxy resin was selected to prepare waterborne epoxy- emulsified asphalt. Self-emulsification technology was not mature, the prepared waterborne epoxy- emulsified asphalt could not be stored for a long time.Both anionic asphalt emulsion and cationic emulsified asphalt are used to blend with flexible waterborne epoxy resin, the results showed that waterborne epoxy resin with anionic asphalt emulsion compatibility is better than the cationic emulsified asphalt after blending.The waterborne epoxy- anionic emulsified asphalt was tested at different factors. The results showed that: temperature affects waterborne epoxy- emulsified asphalt curing primarily at cure speed and strength growing rate in the early, having little effect on ultimate strength; final bond strength of waterborne epoxy- emulsified asphalt increasd with the mix amount of epoxy improving; after waterborne epoxy was fully cured waterborne epoxy- emulsified asphalt adhesive strength still had a small increase over time.Microstructure of waterborne epoxy- emulsified asphalt under the fluorescence microscope and digital image characterization results showed that: waterborne epoxy-emulsified asphalt herein was the two-phase system, asphalt was the continuous phase, epoxy was dispersed phase; three different substrate interface which were glass, asphalt, and cement, the epoxy phase distribution, longitudinal no stratification; waterborne epoxy resin have their own reunion phenomenon in waterborne epoxy- emulsified asphalt film in curing process, lower curing temperature, epoxy reunite more obvious after curing; the compatibility of herein emulsified asphalt and water-based epoxy resin was not optimal, waterborne epoxy resin in the system is not ideal cross-linked into the network.
