With the constantly development of social economy and the gradually expansion of city scale, the urban green space and its landscape effect have become the hot issue of the social concern during the rapid and swift urbanization process nowadays. For a long time, urban green space color plays an important role in urban environment, which carries abundant regional culture and has great influence on city development and people’s life quality. But so far, the urban green space color design and planning in Beijing is still in its early development stage, suffering the negative effect not only from the lack of planning, theoretical guidance and practical application of the corresponding department, but also the disorder of architectural color, vanity project, color pollution and etc. During the urbanization process, many cities only pursue the external representational modeling of green space color landscape, neglect cognition of the barrier and its intrinsic value. This leads to the emergence of a number of urban green space image engineering, which not only caused a great waste of social resources, but also tremendously hindered the sustainable urban planning and design. This paper based on the analysis of the domestic and aboard research results, standing on the viewpoint of plant landscape, proposes a novel planning and design way for urban green space from a new cultural perspective and orientation. We take Beijing, a historic city, as the research object, through on-spot investigation, document research, summarization and many other ways to analyze its own features on urban green space planning and design, explore the existing problems, to eventually come up with various targeted solutions and improvement measures, which enhance the connotation of urban green space color planning and design.
