Hotel is another kind of architecture providing people with accommodation expect houses. The development of hotel is always following that of human civilization. Up to now, hotel has included more and more functions, becoming a complex machine. The function organization of a large-scale hotel is quite complicated, which will determine whether the hotel can be run effectively. In contrast to the rapid development of the hotel industry, the hotel codes and standards in China is relatively out of date. They are below the normal level of the present hotels and can hardly be the guidance of hotel design. On the other hand, the number of multinational hotel corporations in China is growing rapidly. Almost every corporation has its own hotel design standards, which are connected with the hotel management, to guarantee the quality and feature of all its hotels around the world. These standards, concerned with details, can be the valid guidance of the hotel design. However, since these standards aim at the multinational hotel corporations, there are some conflicts with the hotel codes in China. For this reason, they are still not familiar with architects in China. My graduation design is a five-star resort in Shiqiu Studio, Lishui, Nanjing, which need to hold 600 guests for accommodation and meeting. I hope to combine the domestic codes and the standards for multinational hotel corporations as the guidance of my design. This one also becomes a major part of my dissertation. I hope I can obtain the ability to organize the hotel functions through the research and design. Another main component of my dissertation is the relationship between the large-scale resort and the site-how to make the full use of the landscape while being harmony with the surroundings. I would like to explore it from three ways-the layout of functions, the form and the materials. The whole thesis contains about 10300 words and 31 pictures and charts.
