During the past decades, we have seen significant progress in the field of minimally invasive surgery, which is intended to minimize post-operative pain and speed up recovery times while maintaining an enhanced visual field for surgeons. The lack of depth information in two-dimensional image of traditional laparoscope limited its application. However, three-dimensional laparoscope can provide stereo visions with 3D display device which makes it have wide application prospects in the future. This thesis focused on design and development of video control unit in three-dimensional laparoscopic imaging system. The main work was as follows:at the beginning of this thesis, combined with requirements from both surgeons and engineers, outline of the system was established. In addition, dual-channel CMOS image capture circuit based on the FPGA platform was designed, and through data processing, HD real-time video display interfaces of three-dimensional laparoscope were developed. A keypad was designed and integrated in the system on the principle of capacitive touch sensor. Furthermore, graphical user interface (GUI) was developed based on NIOS II softcore processor to achieve the interface control functions. In the end, animal testing was conducted to test the function of the system. The real-time processing capacity of our three-dimensional laparoscopic imaging system was 720p@120 Hz with latency about 1/30 second and the system had a completed GUI whose function was well-tested. The research laid a solid foundation for further development of 1080p three-dimensional laparoscope.
