Research On Visual Protection Of Yueyang Pagodas Beside Dongting Lake

The ancient pagodas beside Dongting Lake are an extraordinarily beautiful scene in Yueyang. Located in the border zone of the village and town regions and that of water areas, they integrate both humanistic and natural features, and convey exclusive visual scenery. Their straightly high and classic artistic images add a spiritual atmosphere to the landscapes of Yueyang.This research takes these pagodas as the main research objects. Firstly, we carry on the analysis of the history of background, nature, and role, and analyze the necessity of their visual protection. Secondly, by the analysis of visual methods, we study the components of pagodas’ visual environment and their present situations. Finally, based on the above analysis of theory, characteristics, and present situations, we put forward the effective strategies of pagodas’ visual protection.This research studies the ancient towers not only from the perspective of historic and cultural heritage, but also from the perspective of urban space and scenery environment. The visual protection of pagodas should firstly ensure the unobstructed view sight on the level of visual analysis and construct the ideal visual image; besides, it should create a comfortable and perfect outer atmosphere for the pagodas on the level of space construction, so as to realize the fusion of the pagodas and the urban and rural scenery environment nowadays, and develop their new vitality.
