As Chinese urbanization pace is quickening in the 21 th century, an increasing number of people are moving into the cities. This has resulted in growing demands for more houses. In response to people’s housing demands, the collective house has emerged and become common in cities. Closely linked to people’s life, the interior space of the collective house sees increasingly elaborate designs. Researches on interior space design will enable people to understand the peculiarity of dwelling space multi-dimensionally and comprehensively and understand how significant it is to people’s life. The building of dwelling space will make home life more comfortable and convenient. Requirements for comfortable life are not limited only to space, however, there are more requirements on residential culture, quality of life, esthetic elements and other factors. With the fast-changing development of modern design, there is also change in the interactive relationship between different material decorations and form design. To reasonably apply these elements to interior space design, it is necessary to establish various spatial components and design laws and principles. Furthermore, it’s necessary to thoroughly comprehend and accurately handle the space. In this way, references on the interior design of modern congregated house can be available, and enriched human life and improved psychological need experience will come true.Focusing the studies on the interior design of congregated house, the paper was mainly composed of five chapters.Serving as an introduction, Chapter 1 elaborated on the development background of congregated house, research objectives and significance. Meanwhile, it summarized existing research status on this topic both at home and abroad.Chapter 2 analyzed relevant concepts and development trend of congregated house, interior- space design patterns and requirements, the effect of divergent residential requirements. Based on the analysis, this chapter expected to give guidance on the design of residential interior space and create a living space more suitable to modern people. Commencing with the type of the collective house,Chapter 3 analyzed different spaces, divergent in properties and functions, within the residential house respectively. At the same time, the paper made a further analysis from the perspective of physiological and psychological dimensions of humans and by consulting relevant survey data on ergonomics, environmental psychology, behavioral science. Besides, by studying and analyzing interior space form and environment, the paper probed into the effect of technology, material, function, color and other factors on the design of interior space form. Moreover, it studied ventilation, daylighting, sound environment, air quality, and other residential environmental factors, and went a step further in the researches into interior space design patterns specific to current congregated house.Chapter 4 selected typical Japanese Rokko collective houses, Guangzhou Wanhui Building developed by China Vanke and MUJI residential design cases and analyzed their interior design techniques and the problems they have solved. Not only did this closely integrate the research topic with practical cases, but also gave strong supports to theoretical researches of the paper. As epilogue of the paper, Chapter 5 reviewed relevant theoretical researches in interior design of the collective house, in hope of laying relatively scientific and reasonable design basis for interior design of congregated house and making it become more comfortable place to live in. In addition, comprehensively considering different dwellers’ requirements in a residential environment, it strived to meet personalized living demands of modern people. What’s more, it offered new clues to an interior space design of existing collective house and looked into the future development.
