As the framework and bloodline of the city, urban street is the very important partof the city.The street is not only the linear physical space or group of the infrastructure. Forpublic road, highway and toll road, their only function and aim is for transportingpeople and goods, which are not in the scope of this thesis’s research. The street talkedin this thesis is not simplicity like that. As urban streets became the public asset whichcan be used freely, people have being paying more and more attention on the publicityof street, especially after50th in20century.The street have regulation effect on community form, structure and comfort levelof city. Steer is the most simply way supply outdoor activity place for people. Inmodern city,a few people have private garden, some time the citizens don’t need it.Also the park and suburb are not easily to reach, then street create outdoor activityplace for people because of their publicity.People in the street have complicated reflection to the surroundings. Because ofthis, the street have to not only fill the bill of basic functions but also the fill ofaesthetic and symbolic. People in the street feel the surroundings through sight, hearing,smell and touch, meanwhile the physiological and psychological reaction will becreated and become a motion. Which influence people’s life, work in concert with lifeattitude and cultural deposits. Peoples’ feeling of streets is the point of contact of thisthesis. The thesis expounds the function of the street, demand of feeling, experiencelevel, etc, then use the theory studied before to analysis the streets in Xi’an city. The Xi’an city has its own characters and history, citizens have unique life styleand culture connotation. All of this strongly influence the construction of streets andthe feeling to street landscape. So it’s essential to study the characters of Xi’an city.Important districts and streets can be found through studying the construction practiceand planning ideas. What kind of feeling will people have when they walking in thesestreets? Is it positive or negative? These feelings come from regular reasons and haveintension. Studying on them could make us understand these feeling correctly and havedeeply cognition on street landscape construction. These provide suggestions for theurban streets construction in the future. |
