Building Brings Advantage，while Courtyard Creates Utility

The relationship between building and courtyard has been one of the mostimportant research of architecture. The author designed a part of buildings andcourtyards at the Tsinghua University Bajia primary school project, carried out acareful thinking and practice of buildings and courtyard design. In this research,the symbiotic design of building and courtyard was fully studied.This paper has studied Laozi`s Philosophy--" Have-substance bringsadvantage，while have-no-substance creates utility ",and creates a new concept:Building brings advantage， while courtyard creates utility. The relationshipbetween them is symbiotic. On this basis, the third chapter reviews some Chinacourtyard cases and western square cases, recognizes buildings enclosecourtyard space is a common tradition, also reviews some cases of modernarchitects, there are still many excellent courtyard design in the trend of modernarchitecture which is paid much attention to architectural form, it provides astrong argument for this study.This research Takes Tsinghua University Bajia primary school as anexample, analyzes the land conditions, design requirements and relevantregulations, and then analyzes the formation of the overall layout of the projectand nine courtyard concept. The fourth chapter summarizes three kinds ofdesign patterns which form the courtyard, respectively," Separate "," Connect "," Through ", three patterns of interaction form the multi-level courtyard space.The fifth chapter analyzes "indoor" design strategy for the courtyard, whichselected three design patterns:" Towards "," Protrude "," Concave ", threepatterns of interaction form the a rich and ever-changing courtyard space.Trying to create buildings and courtyard symbiosis campus environment,its overall, continuous, multi-level beauty, is the research goal.
