Researches Of Watertightness Performance Design And Testing For Curtain Walls

With the development of economics and urban construction, building curtainwall is increasingly applied to different kinds of buildings. Building curtainwall has advantage in structure, decoration and economic efficiency overtraditional building envelope. Since curtain wall is now in its early days athome, its design, construction, supervision and test standards and technicalstandard system is not perfect. In recent years, there were numbers of problemson the building curtain wall, especially leakage due to design, constructionMaintenance or other problems. Consequently, research on the design and teston watertightness performance and summary on the problems of curtain wall, areof great importance.There are4parts of this paper. In the first part, there are basic concept,division, development and present situation of curtain wall. Besides, it alsotalks about the structure characteristics, reliability and its influencingfactors. The second part gives points on design, construction and test. In thethird part, there is a detailed description on design and test method ofwatertightness performance of curtain wall. In the last part, analysis of thecauses of wall leakage, and measures to ensure the curtain wall watertightnessperformance are put forward.As the building envelope, building curtain wall should meet the requirementson each performance. Watertightness performance is one of the most importantperformances of building curtain wall. And it is the most important part of thenormal use of curtain wall. There are many factors that can make influence onwatertightness performance. So the whole process of curtain wall should bewell-controlled. Design, material, construction, test and other parts shouldbe paid attention. Reasonable design, regulatory construction, effective testshould be done.The main conclusions of this paper are as followed:(1) according to thestructure characteristics, waterproof structure of curtain wall should be well design by using principles of watertightness performance.(2) In theconstruction, importance and difficulties should be focused, and properconstruction technology should be adapted in accordance with the requirementsof design.(3)Curtain wall testing is the effective way to study the design andconstruction of curtain wall. Problems occur on test should be pay more attention,and effective measures should be taken both on test and on the actual projectto avoid problems occurs again.
