Building curtain walls are the protection structure outside of buildings. During theprocess of building curtain wall’s designing and constructing, there are somewidespread problems such as large amounts of information, long design cycle, poorreliability and large repeated labor workload, etc. To the best of our knowledge, Thereis little research regarding proposing a unified solution for above problems.An effective method for information modeling in building curtain wall’s design ispresented in this paper. Firstly, several kinds of commonly used building curtain wallsand theirs characteristics are introduced, and a design framework of informationmodeling in the building curtain wall is proposed, which consists of the data layer, themodel layer and the functional modules. Then, several key technologies ofinformation modeling in building curtain walls are researched, which includeconstruction of the building curtain wall’s main model, the technology ofsegmentation and intelligent reconfiguration of curtain wall’s surfaces, virtualassembly of curtain wall’s components. This paper describes key issues as belowdetailly:A rapid method for the3-D surfaces reconstruction of building curtain wall’smaster model, which is based on parametric techniques and B-spline surface fittingalgorithm, is presented. Based on the method,3-D surfaces of curtain wall can bereconstruction by multiple2-D contours of building floors.A method for multi-style splitting the building curtain wall’s surfaces is presented,and another method for intelligent coding the building curtain wall based on topologyof divided curtain surfaces is also presented. By using the methods, the problem,which is that the initial curtain wall surfaces, is too large to meet the manufacturingtechnique of building components and assembly requirements, can be solved. A method of virtual automatic assembly for the building curtain wall based onmodel driven is presented. By using the method, some assembly information, whichincludes assembly process, assembly effects and assembly details, can be visualdisplayed in the design stage, and the correctness of building components assemblycan also be validated in the design stage.Finally, based on the research above all and the SolidWorks secondarydevelopment platform, a computer aided designing system for building curtain wall isdeveloped. A practical building curtain wall project is selected to verify the system.The experimental results show that the method and technologies of informationmodeling in building curtain wall in this paper is effective.
